Leonardo between sport and study, stands on the podium of the Italian Championship

First positive stage for Leonardo Marseglia, author of a double KZ2 podium on the Franciacorta circuit, during the first weekend of the Italian Championship.

Leonardo Marseglia’s season is finally in full swing. After the first round of the European KZ2 Championship in Genk (Belgium), Leonardo was immediately back on track to start the ACI Karting season on the Franciacorta Karting Track.

Challenging appointment in a KZ2 as always competitive and numerous that saw Marseglia take part in Sunday’s double race with the right conviction.

Taking a step back, Leonardo’s great work had already started from the free practice and obviously from the official qualifying, where the Apulian driver did his best to stay at the top of the classification, collecting the 12th overall time, fourth in Group C.
Two heats on Saturday to look for the best starting position in the first final. Despite a P11 after a penalty, with fifth position in the second heat, Leonardo was able to maintain a good top ten position with tenth.

Sunday at Franciacorta then concluded the programme of the first ACI Karting weekend with two races eagerly awaited by all. In the first race of the morning, Marseglia enchanted those present to the sound of overtaking and fast laps along a circuit of difficult interpretation. Eight positions recovered up to second place overall and the podium. Impeccable race conduct by the Apulian driver.

Last race and final laps in the afternoon, also in this case masterfully tackled by Marseglia without taking any risks but at the same time recovering another four positions (after the inverted grid start compared to the result of Race 1), valid for third place and the second podium of the weekend.

With these results, Leonardo currently occupies second position in the overall standings, minus two points from the top.

Leonardo Marseglia: “It was not a perfect qualifying, I recognise that, but we were going very fast so I only had in mind to recover. During the heats it was my main objective and without the penalty in the first heat, together with fifth place in the second, I would certainly have started in the first rows of the grid. In the final I started from tenth place, but right from the start I was back in the fight for the top three positions, and battling it out I managed to finish second. Even in Race 2 I had a great pace which allowed me to start seventh and finish third. I am really very satisfied”.

In addition to life as a driver, as of this year, Leonardo has also had to cope with his university commitments and the Dual Career project at the Catholic University of Milan, without giving up what remains his greatest passion. Probably a different method of tackling the season than before, but not with any less commitment or desire to achieve concrete results.

“Let’s say that I have had to reduce the number of races because of university, but I haven’t given up being a driver. I am sacrificing some things to be able to pursue both careers but the efforts pay off and with passion you can really do anything, that hasn’t changed at all,’ Leonardo explained. “I try to study as much as possible during the year to arrive at the exam sessions in the best condition without having to catch up. It takes willpower but I believe that studying does not exclude sport and vice versa, when I go back to the hotel after the race day I study a little so as not to lose my rhythm and so on. One step after the other, just like in racing!”

Leonardo Marseglia would like to thank Antonio Mancino (KCS) for all his work at Franciacorta, Viti Racing, the sponsors and his family.

Next appointment on the weekend of 23 and 26 June at the Ugento track.
